Mexico

This year for fall break we embarked on a cruise from Galveston, Texas to Honduras and Mexico on Allure Of The Seas with Royal Caribbean. I know it sounds cliche, but the ship was amazing, the food was fantastic, and the had the best time.

Day 5: Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico
Day 6: Cozumel, Mexico
Day 7: Cruising
Day 8: Return to Galveston, Texas

Our first stop was Rotan, Honduras where we went on a snorkeling excursion. After a short bus and boat ride, we found ourselves snorkeling around a ship wreck. The water was clear and pretty calm, but it was pretty shallow where we snorkeled, hence the ship wreck. Our guide warned us there was fire coral and not to touch anything. He said something about how it will make your body feel like it is on fire. Well, of course we found ourselves in shallow water near some coral. Apparently, Katie was actually listening and recalled the “body on fire” warning from the guide and proceeded to have a panic attack, which took the form of trying to get on top of Lilly like Yoda on Luke. Thankfully, she came to her senses before drowning Lilly. After that excitement, we went back to the beach for some empanadas and beverages.

The next stop was Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico, otherwise know as the hottest place on the planet. No excursions this time. We just walked around the port, shopped, and watched the Costa Maya Flyers.

Our next stop was Cozumel, Mexico. where we went on an excursion to Chichén-Itzá, which I definitely knew before boarding the bus was one of the seven wonders of the world. It was about a four hour trip to the site and our first experience driving in Mexico. I was expecting the landscape to look like the Sahara, but it found it more tropical jungle. We didn’t get a lot of time to explore, but the pyramid, temple, and demented soccer field were impressive.
